After so many years, I still can’t deny that the Shot Show is the Super Bowl for the firearms industry, as well as for the crossover sporting goods markets such as outdoor sports. It gets larger every year, and the 2023 show should be no different in this post-Covid scare era.
The show is actually now too large to walk the whole thing in the four days you can get on the floor, and it definitely takes a toll on my feet. And that doesn’t include all of the walking to and from the show, and around Las Vegas, because there, everything is spread out. It’s a lot of hiking around, but its worth it.
This annual industry pilgrimage, more than others, is the best chance to see people who you know – coworkers and former coworkers, reps, customers, vendors, industry friends, media contacts, pro staff and many other kinds of experts and affiliated people, even of the celebrity and political persuasions. And, for some reason, almost everybody who attends thinks along the same lines if you know what I mean.
The last few years have been challenging for everyone, business wise and health wise, and I hope we haven’t lost too many industry friends along the way, but that’s life. I wished that everybody appreciated that camaraderie, put differences and grudges aside and just acted like our similarities outweigh our differences. We are in the same boat together, and professionalism and respect are important, as much as it is needed broadly throughout our society. So give peace a chance.
Overall, there is plenty of catching up to do. Orders to write. New contacts to make. And, plenty of networking and progress to be made as we all move forward in 2023. The unusual nature of this profession, this industry, dictates that we are more aware than others, and that we all work together.
Have a good show.
