Gun Ownership is about much more than Shooting

Rights and freedoms come to mind. Unfortunately, these terms are deemed to be privileges by those in political opposition to such concepts.

Owning a firearm, from an outsider’s perspective, especially amongst anti-gun advocates, is about violence, ignorance and irresponsibility. These same people don’t really understand guns, nor do they really want to. If anything, it is a convenient political trigger to move their greater agenda forward. Their vision of America is very different. It is a place where change will ultimately create a new utopian society that replaces the United States as we know it. They fundamentally hate our country and what it stands for, as well as the people who built it into a success story for the world to envy.

Conversely, to the American gun owner, gun ownership is about exercising one’s freedoms. In fact, I know people who literally purchase firearms and never use them. This can be quite confusing to the liberal gun abolishionist, but it makes perfect sense to those who want to show their support for our Constitutional Right to bear arms as outlined in the 2nd Amendment.

I have had liberal-minded people in my life who are actually curious. They question. I explain. And, they still don’t get it. That’s probably because the way their brains are wired, concepts such as individual freedoms and Constitutional protections don’t fit into the cosmetic of their twisted viewpoint on morality.

For the avid gun buyer, some are collectors, sometimes nostalgic, and sometimes trendy, but either way, this is a serious hobby and interest. Many gun owners are active shoots, whether they be hunters or sport shooters at ranges or in the field. In either case, they do so because they have the right to bear arms. And, for the most part, those who own firearms are very responsible, and understand the concern for safety. It is very rare that such a person misuses a gun for criminal intent. Ironically, it is more often those on the opposite end of the political spectrum who turn out to be lethal shooters. And unfortunately, but most often, they are people with some form of mental health issues. This does need to be addressed constructively.

On a practical level, we know all too well that the reality of this world is that we need to be able to defend ourselves from harm, as self-preservation is a human right. Protection must be guaranteed. Otherwise, we are all just victims waiting to happen. It threatens the very fabric of our society. And, law and order is important, but in no way can police literally shield all of us from threats 24/7. Violent crime is not a paranoid delusion, but a very real and growing reality. Unfortunate, but true.

It is the politician that doesn’t understand. They and other outspoken voices that oppose gun rights are the very people that seem to want to compensate and vouch for those who would do us harm. It is very difficult to get my head around that. Anyway, these same politicians don’t even care to understand the subject in which they are so outspoken about. Somehow, words have lost meaning, and honesty is a luxury. Only their agenda matters. That does not serve We The People. That, must also be addressed. Social media: @tetraguncare
