Bronze Brush Served with a Brass Fitting sized to Caliber

It reads like an entree of a menu from a 5-star restaurant overlooking the Champs-Elysees. Kinda.

Stacks of braided bronze bristles wrapped around a solid brass core fitting. Available in every caliber. And fitted to an 8/32 threading. Served in a plastic package featuring the brand’s legendary colors – blue and yellow.

If you are a gun owner, and appreciate gun care, then the little details of firearms maintenance matter to you. From #22cal and #12ga calibers, to the selection of cotton patch size and rod length and width, it does make a difference. Bronze brushes are more preferred than nylon, and strongly recommended over steel since you want to thoroughly remove hard buildup while preventing gunmetal scarring.

After its first use – 10-12 passes thru a gun bore, typically – a bronze brush will accumulate a bit of carbon fouling debris, and begin to compress a bit ahead of the next cleaning. And, if you put copper solvent on it, make sure to hit it with gun spray after so that the liquid doesn’t further degrade the bristles. Essentially, you are stopping the chemical reaction.

Some people like following brushing up with cotton mops, or patches on jags fit a tighter fit, but others like to lay a patch over the bristles and mop it out that way. So be it, but it may be a little too tight unless the brush has alot of wear, and give. You will see.

Nylon is recommended for light duty use, and for handgun owners, it is more common. Nylon bristles are more effective than they are credited for, and they don’t wear the bore at all. However, a strong solvent can dissolve them faster than their bronze brothers.
