In the mid 1980s, Tetra Gun was the original patented synthetic gun lube technology introduced to the firearms market.

The big takeaway is that you want something acting as a barrier between two surfaces of finely-precisioned gunmetal, as well as between the bore metal surface and the bullet. This will minimize fouling buildup, and enhance ballistic performance, even if it’s only modestly. A lubricant oil on its own isn’t enough because it does not provide the buffer zone that a particle offers in handling the load bearing and friction abrasion that will occur from direct contact. It is wise to prevent gunmetal wear.
