Firearms Ownership Wisdom

I get a kick out of the gun enthusiasts who think anything can be a good firearm lubricant, including leftover automotive fluids, petroleum jelly, animal fats or even a concoction made up of a mix of different substances. I guess that’s more fun than foolish. Enjoy.

Those who are serious professionals in the firearms industry know that there is a difference is selecting a better firearms lube, and whom appreciate the subtle differences between good and better, let alone the choices that will guarantee you either weapons failure or limited life per application.

In my many years in this business, having worked with so many of the firearm manufacturer engineers, technicians, gunsmiths, armorers and production experts, it is important for the civilian gun owner to respect or at least take heed to what these people say, or better yet, do. That isn’t even mentioning the professional user community – the military operators, the duty officers, range officers, competitive marksmen and law enforcement evaluators who take such products under consideration for a living.

There are differing opinion and preferences, and there are quite a few viable options out there among the gun oil, gun grease, clp and gun cleaner brands, but as is the case with anything, ultimately, the cream rises to the top. It is fascinating how the self-proclaimed gun nut experts who deemphasize lubricants also tend to be the most stubborn among us, preferring to struggle than take logical account for why their firearm just jammed or needed a relube after very few rounds. Metal-to-metal contact and friction demands attention.

So the question is, why would you spend serious money a better piece of hardware – and the same goes for firearm accessories that can be attached to enhance your experience – while choosing to be cheap when it comes to gun care, which clearly costs pennies per magazine of rounds fired. Amazing, but that is part of human nature. The ego is a powerful thing that, when left unattended to, can let a tactical ninja make regrettable mistakes, beard, hairbun, tats and all.

The best among us who handle firearms are not the braggarts, but the silent types. The John Wick characters who speak softly and unload a magazine or two within seconds, accurately and without inperfections. Flawless results require superior choices. There is no time to think in those moments. You must clear your mind of doubt. That requires using the best available of everything, not that there aren’t scenarios where you make due with what is available. I get that, but don’t try to be a Wal-Mart shopper when it comes to personal defense or performing with your guns at the highest level.

I know there is the mystique of brand association as people latch unto cool things. Popular things. Very often, faddish things. It the the tortoise that wins the race, not the hare. And it is the old bull that has the wisdom to take his time to get his without giving in to the temptations of youth to act without thinking clearly. Situational awareness is very important, and training in a state of calm, knowledge and repetition is the path to success. One day, it may save your life.

If you watch the news, you can’t miss what is going on. You hear the pundits. The politics. The agendas. You see what is, and where people are. There is that little voice in your head that tells you to know better and to realize right from wrong and how things will play out in the end if things turn for the worse. Mental clarity and objectivity will serve you well. You will be among the survivors. This is about life itself. Guns are just a tool.

I know that by dedicating my career to manufacturing and distributing good quality gun lube and other gun cleaning products, I am doing my part as a citizen of our very special country, and of the world that is constantly at unrest. As many have joked, everyone will need gun lube. There is a truth to that, but the preparedness is more important than wanting to have to use your tools. I temper my enthusiasm with a consideration of history, and the hope that everything will work out. Peace through superior firepower is not such a bad idea. People respect a well armed public.

What I just wrote shouldn’t be controversial, and it’s not a challenge. It’ just awareness and a state of mind, and a consideration for maintaining our way of life in a free society. It should never be assumed. I just read that the estimated count of guns in this country is over 472 million and counting. That is a good investment in security.
