Choosing Firearms Cleaning Accessories

There are Clean Guns, and then there are well Lubricated Guns. There is a difference.

First, start off with making sure you are using rods and accessories that are threaded to the same measurement. For example, stand handgun and rifle calibers for the consumer market are 8/32. If you don’t get that, it can become an unnecessary headache. There could be a European size or the 9/32 threading used by the military (for some reason).

When we refer to cleaning rod accessories, I am talking about attachments that are screwed on, include bronze brushes, nylon brushes, cotton mops, brass jags, the patch holder and possibly other items.

After that, the cotton patches come into play. The size (dimensions) count when it comes to the caliber (diameter) of your bore. You will know what I mean when you try to push thru and there’s either too much resistance or not enough contact. So, give that some thought. Sizes range of 3/4″ up to 3″ usually, covering .17 cal. thru 12 ga shotgun.

Tetra Gun offers quality versions of all of these products in 20 different calibers.

After that, there are other gun care tools and accessories like mil-spec style double ended brushes, or swabs that can be used to reach hard-to-reach nooks and crannies. Additionally, there are traditional favorites like lead removal wipe down clothes or silicone oil clothes for adding a nice luster to a gunmetal finish.

Take care of your firearms. They will appreciate it, and so will you the next time you pull a 34″ barrel in tip top shape out of its protective case. Peace of mind is a good feeling.
