The definition of “fire-ready condition ” is when you have 100% reliable functionality when de-holstering and drawing a gun after considerable time out of action, if need long-term storage. That is the fire ready that I am speaking of. Complete peace of mind. After that, it’s up to you to perform based on overall preparedness with the right mindset, hopefully after significant training.
Overall, training is most commonly defensive as it relates to self-defense in general. Many people turn to NRA (National Rifle Association) certified trainers or USCCA (U.S. Concealed Carry Association) defensive carry classes for both certification and overall firearm safety education. The Second Amendment Foundation also offers various classes aka SAFTEA. Gun Owners of America is another national organization, but I don’t think they directly provide training.
There are plenty of firearms training programs that cater to law enforcement designed to address policing scenarios including tactical firearms applications. Most States have their own LEO training for firearms in additional to Federal Agencies who train within their own ranks.
The majority of American gun owners do have some level of firearms training, some of whom have to do meet the ownership and purchasing laws within their State, but everyone should be responsible with safety in mind, and that includes firearms storage as well. Keep those guns in a locked and secure location.
The fire ready part comes in to play when you get your hands dirty. Cleaning guns. Lubricating firearms with superior products. Securing and storing firearms in as ideal a condition as possible before use aka a clean, dry place. These are all factors in assuring a fully operational handgun, rifle or shotgun. It also minimizes risk when you stick to OEM parts, reinforced with training. Practice, practice, practice. @tetragun
