Adventures in Gun Cleaning

I guess the need to inform and educate people will never end. That’s ok. That’s why we are here.

A call comes in asking about what to do, or wondering why something happened. Of course, it all begins with following instructions. Maybe that’s why they shouldn’t have insisted on sitting in the back the classroom as a kid.

Follow instructions from the gun maker which can be found in the owner’s manual.

Don’t mix different chemicals.

Take the time to do things right. Follow the C+LP method.

Clean gun parts with whatever cleaner or solvent you choose.

Remove residue from that material. Very important. Isopropyl alcohol is a good choice.

Apply lubricant to clean, dry parts.

Wipe off excess. In general, you don’t want oily guns. Extra just migrates right into the holster or down your leg. I hope you don’t let it get that far.

Cycle the gun and experience the lube working into the interaction of metal surfaces making contact, not much different than if you lube a door lock.

Repeat after a visit to the range.

From there, what you use is so important if you understand the difference.

For cleaning, Tetra Gun water-based cleaner degreaser, the Carbon Cleaner formula, Action Blaster cleaner degreaser aerosol or the Copper Solvent all provide a function depending on how serious your fouling buildup is.

However, a properly pre-lubed firearm will present minimal buildup in the first place. That is ideal.

Tetra Gun Grease and Lubricant and Triple Action CLP are all related versions of the same proven synthetic fluoropolymer lubricant protectant technology that engages and kind of actives the surface to help you get reliably smooth action, whether it be a handgun, a rifle or a shotgun.

So many people ask us about “is this good?” or that. No need to comment about other brands but it makes you wonder.

“I use…” and how is it? “It seems ok.” So … why are you contacting Tetra? Just being shy, or realizing something’s not right?

I can never got over people who say they try many different brands, or use “whatever is around”, or even use different gun solvent products or lube brands on different parts. Amazing.

My recommendation after switching to Tetra Gun is often to “have a garage sales for all of that stuff or dump it onto someone you don’t like.” Make it fun.

If you don’t value superior products over the bottom of the barrel type of products, excuse the pun, then you deserve to continue your endless quest for a fix. Some people can be quite stubborn.

Sure, even vegetable oil or lard can do something but if you have so little respect for all of this, why even bother putting down the money for a decent quality firearm. You are worth more, aren’t you?
