Home Gunsmith Safety Tips

Rule No. 1:

When in doubt, play it safe.

Pre-gun cleaning aka prep should be part of your routine.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

Note: this is mostly about commonsense even if it seems like overkill.

  • Wear hand protection like nitrile gloves before contact with gun solvents and lubricants.
  • Wear a smock or other frontal protection like a chef to intercept spills or splashes and keep that clothing by the bench vs. regular laundry.
  • Work in a well-ventilated room if you have concerns with inhalation.

Maybe your wife chasing you into the garage isn’t such a bad idea. Let her think she’s won a great victory while you get alone time with the guns. Once you are there, you realize this newly found peace and quiet gives you the precious time to concentrate on what makes you happy.

And as for the lady shooters out there who are already doing all of the above, we know you were right in the first place.

So, do a thorough job and take care of your firearms.

BE your inner gunsmith.
