Firearm maintenance aka gun care is such a serious topic that its become somewhat of a contentious issue, given that everybody has a different opinion on “how-to”. But then again, there are different ways to get the results you want when it comes to cleaning and lubricating gunmetal and other materials used to make modern firearms.
Many people believe in the CLP concept, which stands for Cleaner, Lubricant, Protectant. That is fine, but if you have the time, C+LP, or Clean and then apply a Lubricant Protectant works better. Some use bore rope, or cleaning rods with accessory attachments, while others simply ally cleaning solvents and lubes with saturated patches or even a wipe down cloth. Either way, you are trying to remove pre-existing material, and then store your gun into “fire-ready” condition ahead of your next shoot, with the aim of storing it in a cool, dry environment that won’t allow rust or corrosion to occur. There are many topics to address the many pitfalls and questions, and confusing, and controversy, but hopefully we will address all of that in more thru our blog posts here.
