The Tetra Gun ValuPro III cleaning kit features a bunch of classic components featuring their quality ultra blued steel rod with the spinning rubber T handle. Included are the cotton patches, bore guide, bronze brush, patch holder and instruction manual, all inside a reusable hard plastic case. The difference between this kit and others is the value vs. the price. Be an educated consumer.
On top of that, the Tetra Gun kits all include the famous Tetra Gun Grease and their Triple Action CLP oil, both of which won’t let you down. They are universal for all types of firearms – handguns, rifles and shotguns. Don’t confuse that with the many inferior gun oil, gun lube and gun cleaner that many other brands offer – or, find out for yourself.
What a kit doesn’t include are other accessories that you may need like a brass jag, a nylon brush or a cotton mop (the Tetra shotgun kits include that). Of course, you will need different brushes and other accessory items anyway if you start to work on a gun from your cabinet that’s a different caliber.
The traditional gun cleaning rod practice can be substituted with the quicker Bore Boa bore cleaning rope method. Some people get two so that one is dedicated for a cleaner, and one for the lube, unless you are using an all-in-one CLP product.
The Tetra Gun Action Blaster cleaner degreaser aerosol won’t fit in a kit, nor does the Triple Action / Tetra Gun Spray II CLP lubricant spray, though that’s now offered in a very compact and handy 3 oz. can.
Then of course, some people might want to invest in a one-piece cleaning rod, which Tetra offers in the Prosmith series or in the ValuPro III model which looks like the gun rod in the gun cleaning kit.
Other very popular accessories are the silicone gun cloth, tapered tip swabs, multi-purpose brushes including the mil-spec style brush and the Provise.
As always, I want to remind people of the following tips:
- Grease is not grease, and oil is not oil. Products out there are different so don’t assume anything.
- Don’t mix chemicals from different companies
- Apply lubricant to clean, dry surfaces after cleaning
- Don’t overlubricate. Wipe off excess.
- Use grease on high wear parts and oil on everything else, unless its a gunmetal surface where you shouldn’t use anything at all.
