As important as gun oil or lubricant is, gun grease is virtually essential for critical high-wear gun parts that are most vulnerable to friction. The most obvious application point on semiautomatic pistols are the rails, followed by the connector, pins, the hood of the barrel, sear, lugs, slide and even the trigger.

Unlike CLP oil, which you want to polish on until it’s no longer wet, you should see a good gloss of grease on those key lube points, but not so much as to see the color of it. It’s like car wax, you don’t want the initial heavy haze, just the final shiny polish if not a bit more. The real magic occurs where you can’t see it, down into the substrate of the gunmetal.
