The brass patch holder holds round or square cotton patch fit to the right-sized caliber bore. You know this when there is enough contact inside the barrel when you have enough resistance, which helps you best remove carbon fouling. Lesser patch holders like plastic will not hold up as long.

A bronze brush with a brass fitting is the best version of this accessory attachment. Being caliber specific will give you maximum metal to metal contact to thoroughly remove powder residue from gunmetal.

Nylon bristles are a nice alternative, especially if you only have light fouling and it does a better job than many people think. With all of these attachments, the industry standard for the core size range is made with an 8/32 threading. From .17-.204 has a smaller diameter and the shotgun brushes require a larger threading. So, you made need an adaptor if you are going from a rifle cleaning rod to shotgun accessory attachments.

The less popular cotton mop is a great medium for applying bore solvent and gun oil, respectively, and you can reuse it after washing with a gun cleaning solution or water before your next use after drying it out.

The brass jag loaded with a cotton patch will give you the tightest fit to make contact as a reliable powder residue remover. Some people double up or even pre-saturated with solvent or oil but we strongly recommend that your last passes down the bore are with clean, dry patches that ultimately come out clean.

All of these gun cleaning accessory attachments screw right onto a gun cleaning rod threaded the same way. They can all be used as you come to appreciate the different jobs they can do for your firearm bore cleaning.
