Best ways to use Bore Rope to Clean and Lube Firearms

The bore snake concept has been around for many decades now, and the basic idea is sound. By applying contact in the bore while carrying gun solvent or gun oil from the breech and out the muzzle end. You don’t want to drive fouling residue back into the action. That would be counterproductive.

Since bore cleaning rope is a quick and easy method of maintenance, it only makes sense that many gun owners choose to Clean, Lubricate and Protect (CLP) by using that oil formula exclusively. That’s fine, but if you want to minimize contamination while doing the Cleaning function and the Lubricating and Protecting steps better, you should have a dedicated Bore Boa saturated with cleaner, and a second cleaning rope only used for the lubricant.

Also, you do want to periodically clean the ropes to remove as move fouling residue as possible because all of that accumulation now embedding into the fibers of the rope itself is doing you no good if you are only going to re-contaminate the inside of the gun barrel.
